circle1 Thursday have you seen her? Oh! Is This Interesting?
Thoughts/feelings that just might not matter:

Oh, how I love They Might Be Giants!

John Linnell is my favorite songwriter of all time, and it’s always a treat to get a batch of new tunes from him and his partner, John Flansburgh.

The Else” is their new collection, available exclusively from iTunes, until the CD is released in July. Obviously, I couldn’t wait. Yes, I’ll be buying it twice. Thrice, if need be! Soundtrack of the Summer!

Listen to these here tracks, and fall in love all over again just like me.

And my favorite so far,
The Mesopotamians!

Freshly-picked quotes from the ol’ reference collection:

The first thing Jesus said to me when I stumbled from the tomb was, “I wanted to see what four days would do, Lazarus.”
I nodded and brushed some flakes from my skin. He smiled and rested a hand on my back.
“I think I’ll keep it to three,” he said.

Pound for pound, the best sounds around. For free!

I wrote me up a theme song for Owen Egerton’s new book, How Best to Avoid Dying. Give it a listen, and join us for the release party at BookPeople tomorrow night, Thursday, 7 pm.

Other high-quality tunes are available for purchase on iTunes, and you can order hard copies on southpawjones.com!

Thoughts/feelings that just might not matter:

I’ll perform solo at Café Mundi tonight, friends. That’s at 8 pm to 10 pm. Matt the Electrician is performing for Yankees in Yankeeville.

Tomorrow is the aforementioned Owen Egerton Book Release Party at BookPeople. That’s at 7 pm.

Have you ever seen a twinkling star that seemed like it was talking to you? Let me know, ‘cause it may be the one that got me to invest in a nasty pyramid scheme. I don’t think I’m ever going to see my money again.

Have you ever seen a shaggy dog that seemed to be smiling? Give me a call, ‘cause that mutt was the last creature seen with my stolen Aerosmith box set.

Have you ever felt a breeze tell you it’s all gonna be alright? Well, that same gust lifted my kilt in front of everyone at the Renaissance Festival.

Watch out! That’s my point!

Tuesday is all pomp and no circumstance.

May 15th, 2007 Posted in Photo, Poetry | no comment »

circle1 Tuesday is all pomp and no circumstance.Poetry that Rhymes
And flows. And builds a bridge. And inspires:

Take from the taking.
Love for the making.
Undergrads baking.
Take breaks from braking.

Don’t ride the clutch.
I got skills.

Bald, battered bombers battered Baltimore.
But I was long gone.

Custer caused carnage in Carthage.
‘Cause he thought I was there. Wasn’t!

Demons dive determinedly down on Detroit.
Don’t tell ‘em you’ve seen me.

Evil evacuates each eve of Easter.
Even then, I ain’t afraid.

Forests fall and footballs are fumbled.
Far be it from me to fear.

G is the seventh letter of the alphabet!
Get me some grub!

Quick poetry reeks, as one hereby observes.
But quick, reeking poetry this Tuesday deserves.

Monday in top hat and tails.

May 14th, 2007 Posted in Miscellany | 3 comments »

circle1 Monday in top hat and tails. Is This Interesting?
Thoughts/feelings that just might not matter:

My, oh my, what a weekend I had. Want to know what I did?

1. I traded in my 1992 Buick Regal for $250!

2. I switched my car insurance to Progressive, for better or worse.

3. I purchased a 2005 Scion xB “Sport Wagon,” and I’m falling in love with it.

4. I went to Wimberley with the lovely Maggie.

5. We officially celebrated the one-year anniversary of our first date.

6. We stayed in a beautiful house, where we saw rabbits, deer, redbirds, bluebirds, and hummingbirds.

7. We enjoyed the Wimberley Art Walk. The storeowners like to chat, and they offer lots of free wine.

8. I purchased a 50-year-old music education book stuffed with great old songs for $6.

9. I ate a medium-rare steak with red wine.

10. I waded in a river on River Road.

11. We watched a glass blower blow glass and swing an unformed vase until its top stretched and scalloped.

12. We avoided TV and computer screens all weekend.

We’re both a bit sick now, I guess because there are limits to enjoyment in this life. Sneeze!

I spent a busy day today, but got little done. This is because I am at last becoming perfect in the art of seeming busy, even when very little is going on in my head or under my hands. This is an art which every man learns, if he does not intend to work himself to death.
