Wednesday auctions coveted mid-week status.

circle1 Wednesday auctions coveted mid week status. Is This Interesting?
Thoughts/feelings that just might not matter:

I’m still reeling from an excellent Songwriter Tribute to Bruce Springsteen last night at the Cactus Cafe. Thanks to everyone who came out, everyone who played, everyone who donated, and everyone who helped. We played about three hours of Boss tunes, and we raised over $400 (and a big box of non-perishable food) for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas!

Thanks to the performers: JJ Baron, Ricky Stein, Jude Ross, Nathan Hamilton, Mike Schoenfeld, Matt the Electrician, Abi Tapia, Graham Weber, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, and Nakia. Look these folks up, and find out more about them, I insist. There were just no bad spots all night, and I had the most fun when I wasn’t on stage.

Thanks to Adrienne Longenecker, who came out to represent the Food Bank. Thanks to KUT 90.5 FM for promoting the show.

Double thanks to Abi for organizing and delivering the donations! Thanks to Maggie for helping out. Thanks to Griff, Jeff, and everyone at the Cactus Café for providing the perfect stage.

That’s about all I have the time and energy to type this morning. I look forward to trying it all again sometime. There are still many more Bruce songs to sing.

I believe the war on poverty is a more American idea than the war on the war on poverty. I believe that most people feel like that. And I believe that it ain’t over till it’s over.

Tuesday, we were born to run.

circle1 Tuesday, we were born to run. Is This Interesting?
Thoughts/feelings that just might not matter:

Tonight is the night, my friends, and I’m looking forward to our Songwriter Tribute to Bruce Springsteen at the Cactus Café. The show starts at 8, and it’s free, but we’re asking for donations of cash, check [made out to “Capital Area Food Bank of Texas”], and/or healthy, non-perishable food for hungry folks in our area.

Performers tonight include JJ Baron, Ricky Stein, Jude Ross, Nathan Hamilton, Mike Shoenfeld, Matt the Electrician, Abi Tapia, Graham Weber, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, and Nakia. I’ll play host and perform a few Boss covers myself. We’ve got a big ol’ grab bag of Bruce tunes ready for you, so come on down and bring friends.

Tomorrow, I’ll join Matt the Electrician at Café Mundi, rain or shine. 8 pm. You know this!

Finally, I’m still pushing my fresh entry for the Public Radio Talent Quest. The more people listen to it, vote for it, and comment on it, the better chance I’ll have at moving up in the competition. If I make it far enough, I could end up putting together a pilot episode of my very own show. My 2-minute entry includes a new little song and talk of my four passions. You can check it out and vote at http://publicradioquest.com/node/767. Thanks!

Monday goes without saying.

circle1 Monday goes without saying. Is This Interesting?
Thoughts/feelings that just might not matter:

Oh, the Cinco de Mayo weekend was grand, my friends, but I’m tired, so tired. I stayed up very late last night creating my entry for the Public Radio Talent Quest. I humbly invite you to check it out here [http://publicradioquest.com/audio/user/4193] and vote for it. It includes a chorus of a capella Southpaws! You may have to register, but it only takes a second, and you’re helping me realize my dreams of the kind of stardom that doesn’t require pancake make-up! Tell your friends! Thanks.

I’ll have to update the Southpaw Jones Virtual Excursion des Pieds next Monday, as I only got six miles of exercise last week. Shame on me…just as I was about to virtually bust out of Texas!

Austinites, don’t forget the Songwriter Tribute to Bruce Springsteen tomorrow night (Tuesday, 5/8) at the Cactus Café! 8 pm. Bring non-perishable food and/or cash for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.

Freshly-picked quotes from the ol’ reference collection:

I came here to offer a way to make peace with our Republican friends on this heated school lunch issue. Al Gore and I have discovered a reinventing government way, Mr. Armey, to get around this terrible rhetoric we’ve been flinging at you on school lunches. We have a way to save money through streamlining that does not require us to deprive our children of food. Instead of cutting food, we’re going to cut the cutlery. And here’s how—with a spork. Now, you know, I don’t know how many of you know this, I’ve been eating off these things for years. I never knew they were called sporks. But that’s what they are. This is the symbol of my administration. This is a cross between a spoon and a fork. No more false choice between the left utensil and the right utensil. This is not an ideological choice. This is a choice in the middle and a choice for the future. This is a big, new idea—the spork.

Ten Spoilers from Spider-Man 3
[Do not read this if you do not want to know fake plot information!]

1. Having trouble seeing through his mask, Spider-Man brings Mary Jane a half-dozen bagels when she specifically asked for donuts.

2. Sandman brings Spider-Man a dream: the cutest he’s ever seen.

3. Peter discovers that Aunt May had Uncle Ben killed for an insurance windfall, so she sells him to a Russian circus.

4. Having run out of floss, Spider-Man accidentally chokes on webbing.

5. Spider-Man gets invited to be a groomsman; has to buy a creepy, alien black suit.

6. There’s, like, drama and stuff.

7. An odd sub-plot follows Spider-Woman in a rural setting, as she tries to save the life of a runt pig.

8. Peter smokes and holds his cigarette between his index and pinky fingers. Weird.

9. Expect an extended lover’s quarrel over whose job it is to clean dead bugs off the suit.

10. Mary Jane finds an egg sac in the glove compartment.
