Thursday blurs May, slurs, “Hey!”

circle1 Thursday blurs May, slurs, Hey! Is This Interesting?
Thoughts/feelings that just might not matter:

Two wrongs don’t make a right, but three asides make a decent blog

Did you know this? “At three minutes and four seconds after 2 AM on the 6th of May this year, the time and date will be 02:03:04 05/06/07.” That won’t happen again for another thousand years. Prepare thyself! I’m a’gonna put goat blood on my door frame just in case.

I’m looking into buying a car…a RED car. Is this a mistake? Would this purchase change my identity in some major way? No, I’m not much of a “red guy.” But I’m not much of a “gold guy” either, and I’ve been driving a gold car for eight years without incident.

From http://nypost.com/seven/05032007/gossip/pagesix/easily_scared_pagesix_.htm:

May 3, 2007 — KINDERGARTEN kids in ritzy L.A. suburb Calabasas have been coming home to their parents and talking about the “weird man” who keeps coming to their class to sing “scary” songs on his guitar. The “weird” one turns out to be Bob Dylan, whose grandson (Jakob Dylan’s son) attends the school. He’s been singing to the kindergarten class just for fun, but the kiddies have no idea they’re being serenaded by a musical legend – to them, he’s just Weird Guitar Guy.

Wow, I used to live in Calabasas! I suspect the label “Weird Guitar Guy” may satisfy Mr. Dylan even more than “musical legend” these days.

Wednesday is back in the saddle.

circle1 Wednesday is back in the saddle. Is This Interesting?
Thoughts/feelings that just might not matter:

It’s time to get back to the self-pimpin’, my friends, because…

• My vacation from public life is over!
• Tonight marks the return of Matt the Electrician and yours truly to Café Mundi!
• Saturday, I’ll celebrate Cinco de Mayo in an East Austin community garden!
• Tuesday is the long-awaited Songwriter Tribute to Bruce Springsteen at the Cactus!

That’s right, I’m hitting the stage tonight for the first time since April 6. Will my unused singing voice hold up? Will my guitar calluses reform simply out of a moment’s need? Will there be cake? Matt the Electrician and I will answer all these questions and more tonight at Café Mundi, rain or shine.

Saturday is Cinco de Mayo, “Five of May” to the unilingual. I’ll perform as part of a fiesta and neighborhood open house in East Austin at El Jardin Alegree Community Garden. The event runs from 11am to 7pm, and I’m the last act of the day. Also look for food, massage, face-painting, arts, crafts, and solar power! Sounds like fun, no?

Tuesday is going to be a true treat for me, as I’ve assembled a group of singer/songwriters to celebrate the songs of Bruce Springsteen. Those artists include Matt the Electrician, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, Nathan Hamilton, Abi Tapia, Graham Weber, Nakia, J.J. Barron, Mike Shoenfeld, and Ricky Stein. It’s a free show, but we’ll be asking for cash and canned food donations for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, which I know The Boss would appreciate. I hope this will be the first annual such event at the Cactus, so join us in starting a new Austin tradition.

See y’all out there!
