Here is my first Bedroom Demo of 2009, appropriately titled 2009. I’m proud to post it today, as CNN has an article about successful businesses that started at home. Perhaps there are some good vibes in the air for indoor kids like me. Enjoy!

We ate chocolate by the pound
Pretty women danced around
All the men were pure and strong
The children sang a song
When a stranger came a’knockin’
We would offer him some wine
That’s how it was in 2009

Swirling chasms of dismay
Chunks of life in disarray
None of these could stake their claim
‘Cause we traded jobs & names
Yes, I had my cake, I ate it
And I still could call it mine
That’s how things worked in 2009

Robbing Peter to pay Paul
Doesn’t count as crime at all
‘Cause Peter doesn’t care
And everyone’s aware
That when you’re overdue
Paul takes a hammer to your spine
We played it safe in 2009

I was in a holding pattern
Far from any plan
You were in the patterns
On the ceiling
I was reaching for you
When I felt you touch my leg
Turning back I noticed you were kneeling
Good drugs that year

We ran circles round the youth
While they searched for larger truth
Who needs coffee and debate
When there’s strawberries on your plate
Why don’t you eat one up and tell me
If its random or design
Nobody cared in 2009

I hope 2009 is treating you all with respect, as I’m sure you are
meeting it with aplomb. I suspect there is some original live music
in your future, especially if you reside in or around the three towns
in my subject line. Matt the Electrician and I understand that not
everyone can make it to Austin every Thursday night, so we’re taking
our show to some big population centers for maximum and mutual
pleasure.

I am not hitting on you.

Our Thursday routine remains anything but routine in 2009. We’ll
return to Flipnotics @ the Triangle each week having labored
vigorously on our song title challenge.

Saturday, THIS Saturday, we return to Fort Worth, where we’ve opened and closed many a cool venue. This time, we’re performing at the Jefferson Freedom Café. It’s a wonderful place where I got to open
for the Asylum Street Spankers last year. Find out everything you need to know at jeffersonfreedomcafe.org/.

Looking further into the future, we’ll revisit the legendary Anderson
Fair in Houston on Saturday, February 21. Houstonians, mark your
calendars with stars and hearts, and the days will pass like a winter
breeze.
