This Week in Paw 01.08.10

Jan 8th, 2010 Posted in Miscellany | no comment »

Friends, I hope this embryonic year is treating you to more than just cold weather. I would like to briefly remind you of my new weekly show and give you a free listen of an unreleased song.

Sunday night features the 2nd installment of my episodic musical called Evening Service with Southpaw Jones. If you have not been to the enigmatic Whip In, you’re just going to have to trust me that it is one of the coolest places in town. On the outside, it looks like a convenience store. That’s because it is a convenience store. But it is also a fine beer/wine bar, a South Asian parlour cafe, a listening room, and a spiritual oasis right there on I-35. Come have dinner and drinks at 8 pm to celebrate the weekend while simultaneously mourning its demise. E-mail requests in advance if you like. Here are some miscellaneous reasons to attend:

* I may not wear glasses for the first show EVER.
* I may play the in-house piano on a couple of tunes.
* It’s warm in there.
* The food really is amazing.
* Keytar.

One of my resolutions this year is to post more free listens on southpawjones.com. The first is “Linen Patches,” my Great Recession Era love song, kindly recorded on the shore of Lady Bird Lake by Mr. Robert Steel. You may have heard me play it live. Enjoy, and feel free to share the link!
