Friends, I finally got a hosting gig, during which I will summon all my class and wit for the sake of Austin theatre. Here are the details:
The Dysfunction

A two-hour smorgasbord fiesta safari of Austin independent theatre! An event geared to bring a bunch of Austin theatre groups into one room to show their stuff, and to help raise funds for Dystheatre’s 2011 production of Sam Shepard’s True West. The DYSfunction is a night like no other. Hosted by the inimitable singer/songwriter Southpaw Jones, a dozen theatre companies will each perform a scene related to familial dysfunction.
Doors open at 7:30
Performances begin at 8pm.

Friends!
Did you miss me? Do you remember me?
I did not perform or touch my guitar in the month of September.
I am also out of practice writing blogs.
It has taken me two hours to get this far.
Let me just tell you about FIVE big shows coming up. You should come out. The weather is beautiful.
Wednesday night, I’ll join Spike Gillespie and many other wonderful souls in a reunion-of-sorts for the long-running Dick Monologues show. Most of the night will be vibrant spoken word, and I’ll provide tiny musical breaks. You won’t have seen a Cactus show like this before, trust me.

My pal Robert Steel is releasing a great record called “The Calm Waters of Youth.” Celebrate with us next Thursday, 10/14. Here is Robert’s blurb:
“FREE SHOW! If you come to one show of mine the rest of the year, please make it this one! I am so excited to release my new CD out into the world and I am excited to be sharing the stage with Southpaw Jones. One of my favorite songwriters. I will be joined by a full band consisting of Andrew Pressman (upright bass), Adam Rader (electric guitar), Derek Hansen (drums). The Cactus Cafe is the premier listening room in Austin, no contest. It is also a very historic stage as many greats have graced it. I am proud of the work we did on this CD. I hope you can join us to celebrate the release of it out into the world.”
