A two-hour smorgasbord fiesta safari of Austin independent theatre! An event geared to bring a bunch of Austin theatre groups into one room to show their stuff, and to help raise funds for Dystheatre’s 2011 production of Sam Shepard’s True West. The DYSfunction is a night like no other. Hosted by the inimitable singer/songwriter Southpaw Jones, a dozen theatre companies will each perform a scene related to familial dysfunction.

Doors open at 7:30

Wednesday night, I’ll join Spike Gillespie and many other wonderful souls in a reunion-of-sorts for the long-running Dick Monologues show. Most of the night will be vibrant spoken word, and I’ll provide tiny musical breaks. You won’t have seen a Cactus show like this before, trust me.

My pal Robert Steel is releasing a great record called “The Calm Waters of Youth.” Celebrate with us next Thursday, 10/14. Here is Robert’s blurb:

Friends, I sure do have a unique show coming up Saturday. After the delightfully anarchic Ween finishes their outdoor, sold out show at Stubb’s, I’ll be inside, joining Cole Roulain on drums, Andrew Pressman on upright bass, and Trevor Smith on banjo. We sound good together, and we want to share our musical accomplishments with you. It’s a late show, starting after 11 pm Saturday, but hey, that’s what Saturday is all about!
