The latest major addition
to the Southpaw Jones catalog and the first release on Seesaw
Records, the tunes on this gem leapt into the digital realm on November
8, 2001. Expect fine tin packaging, an intimate performance, and
an accurate portrayal of Southpaw's varied style should you decide to pick
this one up.
Here's a preview of the release celebration which appeared in the Nashville Rage, February 7, 2002:
Sardonic songwriter
in the tradition of Loudon Wainwright, but with the melodic smarminess
of They Might Be Giants' John Linnell and a slight Steve Forbert-esque
raspiness. Jones attended college at Lipscomb University in Nashville before
moving on to the folk-starved streets of Los Angeles. His recordings have
been hailed by the lucky few who have had the chance to hear them, including
the L.A. Times. His latest round of recordings includes a song that many
in Music City can identify with, Words & Music, which includes the
lines "I wasted four years at a college in Nashville/Where heaven came
with mighty cost/The place was filled with Southern belles, or as I called
them 'chicks from hell'/I survived, and I count it all but lost."
